Welcome to The School of Parapsychology. This online institution provides a rare gateway to the scientific enquiry into a world seemingly without answers. As you enter the cyberschool gates, you will realise that Parapsychology is a science comparable to other sciences such as chemistry, physics, biology and psychology. By this, I mean within this domain you will come across a multitude of positions, theories, facts, figures, arguments, and, perhaps more so for parapsychology than any other science, controversy. By opening its gates to the international community, the School of Parapsychology seeks to disseminate knowledge, from the basic foundations to the complex discussions, normally only the domain of the enthusiastic bookworms and parapsychologists.

School Director: Dr. Ciarán O'Keeffe

    Introduction to Demonology

a course on the study of demons

    demon statues

This is a course about Demonology, the study of demons or evil spirits; also a branch of magic that deals with such beings. In religious science it has come to indicate knowledge regarding supernatural beings that are not deities. The Greek term daimon originally indicated "genius" or "spirit," however, with the advent of Christianity it came to mean a malevolent spirit entity.

This is an online course that covers 5 key Demonology topics from History & Religious Context to Classification and some classic Case Studies. Each topic section is full of detail regarding a different aspect of Demonology: history, famous cases, and skeptical commentaries regarding its definition. Each topic section will contain notes compiled exclusively by Dr. O'Keeffe based on his research. There will also be links to documentaries and documents you can download. Although you can complete this course in your own time, each topic has a different focus for you to study. This will be aided by forums for each section in which you can share your ideas and research with other students. Each week you will have an online interactive lecture from Dr. O'Keeffe.

Next Course Start Date: Monday 2nd April

    Deliver us from Evil?

We exorcize thee, O' every unclean spirit, satanic power, infernal invader, wicked legion, assembly & sect; in the Name & by the power of Our Lord Jesus Christ (+); may thou be snatched away & driven from the Church of God & from the souls made to the Image & Likeness of God & redeemed by the Precious Blood of the Divine Lamb (+).

The priest had been trained in seminary but nothing had prepared him for this. He focused on the words in the ritual, fully absorbing the meaning of every phrase, believing in every sign of the cross. But now, with each intake of breath his lungs were filled with the vile stench of the room. It made his eyes water and the lingering mephitis made him gag. The pure whites of the teenage girl's eyes contrasted with the filthy, scar covered body that lay before him. If it wasn't for the repugnant low pitched voice ranting obscenities he may have passed out. The tirade of cursing snapped him out of his stupor and he continued with the ritual of exorcism...

    Foundations of parapsychology

This course is designed to meet the learning needs of students new to parapsychology research. The course sessions are intended to develop students' knowledge of a wide variety of milestones in the history of parapsychology, various approaches to phenomena, a number of theoretical issues as well as the requisite practical skills involved in evidence assessment, basic analysis, and writing up of research. Students will be introduced to methods of data collection (interviews, observation and basic experimentation) and encouraged to engage in practical tasks to complete their understanding of a variety of issues. The structure of the course is a mixture of tutor presentations, illustration through case examples, critical examinations and self-test activities, and reflexive questions.

    COLOUR ESP CARDS

This course is designed to further the knowledge of those students who have a basic understanding of parapsychology research. The course sessions are intended to develop students' knowledge of a wide variety of parapsychology topics not traditionally covered in other course. It promotes critical thinking and teaches students the skills to critically assess published scientific papers in the same way an academic Parapsychologist would. In addition, through the study of various approaches to phenomena, students will learn about the experimental method and the controversy surrounding the results. This course also differs to Foundation courses by focussing the assignment side of the course on more independent study and research. Ultimately students will find that despite it being an online course they will be doing practical work. The structure of the course is a mixture of tutor notes, illustration through case examples, critical examinations and self-test activities, and reflexive questions.

    ZENER CARDS B&W

This course is the conclusion of a natural progression in levels of learning about Parapsychology. Whilst Foundations gave students exactly that, Foundations of Parapsychology, the Intermediate course encouraged students to become more independent in their learning through the assignment (a Research Proposal) and also in taking the topics further and in more detail (e.g. Presentiment). This Advanced Parapsychology course develops the students' knowledge of a wide variety of parapsychology topics even further. It tackles topics you would not see in any online or University course. Topics such as Theories of Psi, ASCs, OBEs and all aspects of the Survival Hypothesis are presented to students. In addition there is still the promotion of critical thinking as there is a need for students to build upon their knowledge from previous courses in order to critically answer higher lever questions about these new topics.

    START DATE: MONDAY 6TH NOVEMBER

The course aims to provide students with a more advanced understanding of fundamental principles of parapsychology research whilst also facilitating the development of critical thinking, critical assessment, and also the conducting and writing up of research. By course completion, students should be able to identify and use various methods, evaluate evidence critically, and conduct independent research.

    PHOTO FROM ENFIELD POLTERGEIST

Poltergeist phenomena are commonly defined, in Parapsychology, as 'displays of energy that induce movement of objects which are ordinarily held in place by inertia and gravity'. It is a word derived from German, meaning, literally, 'noisy spirit' (poltern - noisy, geist - spirit) and phenomena can also include loud noises, the appearance of water, apports and asports (i.e. objects appearing and disappearing), and even spontaneous fires. Poltergeist phenomena are characteristically violent, physical and occur for a short time period (as opposed to longer term hauntings).

This is INVESTIGATING POLTERGEISTS, an exciting 5-topic course tackling all aspects of poltergeist phenomena.

    STARTS: Monday 7th May

From understanding the history of EVP research to learning about the methods used, the scientific perspective and listening to some fascinating examples, this is an Electronic Voice Phenomena 101. The second of the two live lectures will be student-led.
